A rookie mistake is to use funny headlines or puns when writing your copy. I used to have a blast writing headlines with double meanings and jokes that referred to my blog posts. The problem is that a large part of your audience is going to decide what to read based on the headline.
Most people are looking for answers to questions, so the best headlines describe what is covered in the text. Keep in mind that many people are seeing only your headline in RSS feeds and search engine results (SIRP) pages so be a specific as possible in your headline.
