Flower
I have tended to think of GOD as a brute force, but he is more of a caring Father. Yes, he is powerful and crushes evil, but he is gentle with me. He is more like a flower than a hammer.
“The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
Shepherd’s Note
Isaiah’s servant does not finish off what is already failing. A bruised reed, good for nothing by the world’s measure, He will not break; a smoldering wick, one breath from darkness, He will not snuff out. That is the gentleness at the heart of GOD, strength that has no need to prove itself on the weak. Men reach for the hammer because crushing is quick, but GOD works the way a flower opens, quietly, by life rather than by force. Whoever comes to Him already bruised does not need to brace for impact. He has come to mend, not to finish breaking.
