A Wind at Your Back

If you have skated at the beach, you know there is a big difference between the wind is at your back and when it is in your face. A team, a community, a GOD is like a wind at your back.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
— Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 (NIV)

Shepherd's Note

The Preacher's arithmetic is simple: two are better than one, not because two are stronger in the abstract, but because a fall is survivable when someone is beside you. A wind at your back does not walk for you, yet it changes the whole walk. Community works the same way. It does not remove the labor or the hills; it means the labor is shared and the fallen get lifted. GOD made people to need people, and calling that need a gift is the beginning of wisdom.
