Be What You Are

Animals being themselves, as they were made to be, are proud and beautiful, moving through the world with an honest grace. Be who you are, as GOD created you, standing firm in that truth and embracing your inherent worth.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
— Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

Shepherd's Note

David does not praise himself in this psalm; he praises the Maker, which makes all the difference. A creature content to be what it was created to be gives glory without trying, the way a bird glorifies GOD simply by flying. Envy and imitation are a quiet insult to the Craftsman, as if His work needed editing. To be what you are, fearfully and wonderfully made, is not pride. It is agreement with the One who made you, and David says the soul knows it full well.
