Catalina Exists

Catalina exists. You can’t always see it, but it’s there.

If you sit on the bench at 36th street, most days Catalina Island is not visible. Other days are clear and you can see the whole thing plainly.

So on the days when it is too overcast, I know it is there whether I can see it or not. Just like GOD.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
— Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

Shepherd’s Note

Hebrews calls faith confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see, and Catalina makes the point beautifully. The island does not cease to exist when haze hides it from the shore. It is there on the clear morning and there on the gray one; only our view has changed. So it is with GOD's promises. Feelings are weather, not geography. When you cannot see Him at work, do not conclude there is nothing to see. Stand on the shore, trust the map, and wait for the clearing.
