GOD Is a Who, Not a Why

GOD is a who, not a why. He does not owe you an explanation, but he offers you a relationship. This one I heard at Church of all places. Pastor John Reeve, The Cause Church, Brea, CA.

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true GOD, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
— John 17:3 (NIV)

Shepherd's Note

In His high priestly prayer, Jesus defines eternal life not as answers but as knowledge of a Person. To know GOD is the life itself, which means the relationship is not the consolation prize for unanswered questions; it is the treasure the questions were never the point of. A why can be resented. A Who can be trusted. The man who trades his demand for explanations for the gift of knowing Him has not settled for less. He has received the thing itself.
