Resting Is Not Stopping

This is another one from the trail. I can’t walk all the way up this steep trail so I take many rest breaks along the way and that’s OK. Just because I take some rest breaks I am not stopping.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.””
— Mark 6:31 (NIV)

Shepherd's Note

The invitation to rest comes from Jesus Himself, in the middle of the work, not after it. The disciples had just returned from being sent out, and more people were coming than they could handle, and His word to them was withdraw, eat, rest. A pause on the trail is part of the climb, not the end of it. The man who rests at the Master's bidding has not quit. He is doing the next thing his Lord told him to do, which happens to be stopping for a while.
