Be You
GOD wants us to become more like our real selves, what he created. We are not being forced into a mold, though it may feel that way at Church sometimes. GOD is not turning us into what other people are; he’s turning us into ourselves.
“For we are GOD’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which GOD prepared in advance for us to do.”
Shepherd's Note
Paul calls the believer GOD's handiwork, His workmanship, a thing made with intent. The good works were prepared beforehand, fitted to the person He made, so growing in Christ is not being pressed into someone else's shape. Sanctification is closer to restoration: the real self, as GOD designed it, emerging as the false selves fall away. When church feels like a mold, something has gone wrong with the pressing, not with the design. He is not erasing you. He is finishing you.
