You Bum
This was the exchange one day at the beach:
GOD: I love you.
Me: I need some humor.
GOD: I love you, you bum.
I was having a rough day and knew I needed some lightening up. GOD is the creator of humor, and if you give him a chance, you'll see he is hilarious. Ask him yourself.
“He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
Shepherd’s Note
Zephaniah pictures something almost too tender to believe: GOD rejoicing over His people with singing. Not tolerating them, not managing them, but taking great delight in them, the way a father sings over a child he adores. That is why the humor in this entry lands so gently. Affection has its own language in every family, and GOD is not embarrassed by yours. If you hear only rebuke in His voice today, listen again. In Christ, the rebuke has been answered, and what remains is a love glad enough to sing.
