If you are giving a PowerPoint presentation, don't read your slides. Most people can read your slides themselves so it becomes boring fast. Make sure you add another element to the presentation.
People came to hear you speak for a reason. It's OK to use slides, but use them to enhance what you are saying. Don't make the slides the speech, or you are unnecessary.
